From March 25 to 28, 2026, the FOSSGIS Conference, the annual conference of the German-speaking community for free geoinformation systems and OpenStreetMap, took place in Göttingen. This year, the Green Delivery Analytics project participated online. The program covered a remarkable range of topics: from municipal IT strategies and cadastral digitization to bicycle traffic sensors and methods of spatiotemporal data aggregation.

How can urban delivery traffic be made more sustainable? Where are micro-hubs suitable? Which vehicles should be used, and how do traffic, demand, or urban structures influence the optimal solution?
The Green Delivery Analytics (GDA) project is developing a data-driven analytical model to address these questions. The goal is to link various types of information, including urban structure, package demand, delivery routes, and traffic, in such a way that different last-mile logistics scenarios can be analyzed and logistics networks optimized based on this data.

EnviroInfo 2025: Green Delivery Analytics at the Heart of Sustainable Urban Logistics
The 39th EnviroInfo Conference took place in Potsdam from September 17 to 19, 2025. As part of the Informatics Festival 2025, the event was held under the overarching theme “Open Data, Open Science, and Open Society for a Sustainable Future.” In addition to the main track, other thematic areas were highlighted, including Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability, Sustainable Data Centers, Green Coding, and Sustainable Digital Infrastructure.

The discussion at this meeting focused on the dependencies between the various logistics modules for last mile logistics, the data model for “City Analytics,” the calculation and simulation of shipment and parcel data, and the structure of the last mile logistics platform.

Richard Schulte and Mattes Leibenath from the Smart Mobility Institute at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences also had the opportunity to present the GDA project on site.
